South Head

Just a quick run up South Head just after sunset this evening. Not feeling great, maybe have a small cold. Also if anyone is trying to phone me, my phone is inoperable due to Orange being crap so you can get me on email/Alex's phone.

Thought I'd try to get some long exposure photos on my way to and from Brown Knoll tonight. Think I need one of those mini tripods as the camera kept falling over/taking pictures of the floor. Also standing around waiting for a thirty second exposure to complete when it's dark, -4 and howling a gale maybe isn't the best idea!

Tuesday night mist stumble

Tuesday night was a rather interesting trip around to the downfall in thick mist.


Traversing under Kinder Low (look at the stunning scenery)


Wierd hoar frost formations above the downfall.

Couldn't see much at all really, miracle we're not still up there running around in circles.

Melty

Was only going to go for a short run today but felt healthy and the sun was out (sort of a bit) so extended it to the downfall to see if there was any ice left.



The answer as this photo shows is no, all the ice has gone.



As has all the snow, except for a few sparse patches.

Coming back of south head, cloudy and warm all day, cold weather meant to return at end of week. So hopefully will get more than one run with my fancy running crampons this winter...

Microspikes

These are the best things ever, simply strap them onto your shoes and you can run free and unimcumbered across the icyest of slopes.



Here they are on my foot after a short run on tuesday, where they proved their worth as there was lots of compacted snow/ice everywhere.

Sunday

Went up Mount Famine today, very foggy until the top where it was just about poking out of the mist.


Hoar frost on the fence and grass.

Brr.


Briefly out of the mist and into the sun.

Heading back down into the gloom.

Monochrome

Everything began to thaw on Saturday, it was raining in Chapel and snowing a bit higher up, went out for a little run just before it got dark.

Some kind of farm machine, for tickling the topsoil it looks like.
